Beer Styles

Lagers and Ales... what else is there to know eh? PLENTY.

Beer afficianados break down the two basic types of beer into one hundred and seventeen (yes, 117!) different styles of beer... all with their own sub-styles to boot. And you thought all there was to knowing beer was what to tell the bar-keep you wanted...

Here, we will give you a condensed version of the Beer Style Guide... no worries - if you're expecting a test, its not here - you need to go to www.bjcp.org for that.

Our information is condensed from the 2006 Brewers Association Beer Style Guidelines that is used by Brewers for determination of wether their brew meets industry guidelines. This guideline is also used in competition judging, though the BJCP rules are predominant at BJCP sanctioned tastings. Click on one of the following links to see the developmental/judging criteria of the Brew Style.
